2025: A Year of Outstanding Awards!<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

1st Prize:<\/strong> Fondation des Prix d\u2019excellence en recherche, cr\u00e9ation et innovation Award for 2025 awarded to Dr. Pibarot. This prize was presented by the Vice-Rectorate for Research at Universit\u00e9 Laval in recognition of an outstanding research career.<\/p>

2nd Prize:<\/strong> Qu\u00e9bec Prize \u2013 Wilder-Penfield Award. This award, given for excellence in biomedical research, recognizes Dr. Pibarot\u2019s work on aortic stenosis, which has led to improved management of patients with this heart condition. The 2025 Qu\u00e9bec Prizes represent the highest distinction awarded by the Government of Qu\u00e9bec in culture and science.<\/p>

3rd Prize:<\/strong> Acfas L\u00e9o-Pariseau Award. This prize in biological and health sciences acknowledges Dr. Pibarot\u2019s contributions to improving the quality of life of people with heart valve diseases. His work has helped better identify, treat, and, importantly, prevent complications related to heart valve prostheses.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

At the start of this year, we had not one, but two<\/strong> thesis defenses to celebrate \u2014 those of J\u00e9r\u00e9my Bernard<\/strong> and S\u00e9bastien Hecht<\/strong>!<\/p>

Our team actively participated in the Research Scientific Days held on October 3rd and 4th at the Laval University. We had the privilege of seeing two of our students win prestigious awards!<\/p>

On July 19, 2024, we celebrated the 60th birthday of our team leader, Philippe Pibarot. True to his values of teamwork and the importance of having dreams and goals, this event reflected his inspiring philosophy. As he aptly says: \u00ab\u00a0A conductor is nothing without his orchestra.\u00a0\u00bb<\/em><\/p>

Our team attended the Vascular Congress, held in Montreal from October 25 to 29, 2023.<\/p>

Our students had the opportunity to present posters, and one of them, J\u00e9r\u00e9my Bernard<\/b>, won the \u00ab\u00a0C<\/strong>CS Sex and Gender-Based Analysis Trainee Abstract Award.\u00a0\u00bb<\/b><\/p>

A Robot to Facilitate Access to Cardiac Imaging Services in Rural Areas<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t

Dr. Philippe Pibarot, along with Dr. Jamal Bentahar, a professor at the Institute of Information Systems Engineering, and Drs. Lyes Kadem and Wen-Fang Xie, professors of Mechanical, Industrial, and Aerospace Engineering at Concordia University, are developing and training the first robot<\/b> capable of performing ultrasounds on patients’ hearts.<\/p>\n

Operating autonomously, this robot will conduct quantitative measurements using ultrasound<\/b>, which is an essential medical imaging tool used to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases.<\/p>\n

\u00ab\u00a0This will allow people in remote areas to access cardiac ultrasound measurements while staying in their community, surrounded by their families, and without compromising their family and professional responsibilities,\u00a0\u00bb said Dr. Wen-Fang Xie.<\/p>\n

The research team will collaborate with experienced sonographers from the Institute for the Advancement of Work and will benefit from a $475,100 grant from the Government of Canada.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t

A Competition Won - June 2023<\/h2>\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

One of our students has published an award-winning article in the medical journal EuroIntervention<\/em>. Titled \u00ab\u00a0Extracardiac basal annuloplasty for the treatment of secondary mitral regurgitation\u00a0\u00bb<\/a><\/b>, the article evaluates a new extracardiac surgical device for treating secondary mitral regurgitation, offering a less invasive alternative to standard surgical treatments.<\/p>

The \u00ab\u00a0<\/b>Rel\u00e8ve \u00e9toile\u00a0\u00bb<\/strong> competition promotes careers in research and aims to recognize the excellence of work conducted by university-level students, postdoctoral fellows, and members of a professional order undergoing advanced research training, across all disciplines covered by the three Qu\u00e9bec Research Funds.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t
