Award Ceremony

We had the honor of receiving several awards at the 29th edition of the University Research Scientific Days held on May 8-9, 2019.

Congratulations again to our students who worked hard and truly deserved this honor!

A Competition Won

One of our students authored an award-winning publication that was published in the medical journal EuroIntervention. The article, titled “Extracardiac Basal Annuloplasty for the Treatment of Secondary Mitral Regurgitation,” aimed to evaluate a new extracardiac surgical device for treating secondary mitral regurgitation, offering a less invasive procedure compared to standard surgical treatments.

The Relève étoile competition promotes research careers and aims to recognize the excellence of work done by university students, postdoctoral fellows, and members of a professional order in advanced research training, across all disciplines covered by three Quebec Research Funds.

A Robot to Facilitate Access to Cardiac Imaging Services in Rural Areas

Dr. Philippe Pibarot, along with Dr. Jamal Bentahar, a professor at the Institute of Information Systems Engineering, and Drs. Lyes Kadem and Wen-Fang Xie, professors of Mechanical, Industrial, and Aerospace Engineering at Concordia University, are developing and training the first robot capable of performing ultrasounds on patients’ hearts.

Operating autonomously, this robot will conduct quantitative measurements using ultrasound, which is an essential medical imaging tool used to diagnose and treat cardiovascular diseases.

“This will allow people in remote areas to access cardiac ultrasound measurements while staying in their community, surrounded by their families, and without compromising their family and professional responsibilities,” said Dr. Wen-Fang Xie.

The research team will collaborate with experienced sonographers from the Institute for the Advancement of Work and will benefit from a $475,100 grant from the Government of Canada.

Vascular 2023 Congress

Our team attended the Vascular Congress, held in Montreal from October 25 to 29, 2023.

Our students had the opportunity to present posters, and one of them, Jérémy Bernard, won the “CCS Sex and Gender-Based Analysis Trainee Abstract Award.”

It was an incredibly enriching experience !
